HEALTH
Jauhara Farm collies are bred to be healthy. To assure that goal, each animal is DNA tested for the three most common genetically carried problems, Collie Eye Anomaly ( CEA), Multi Drug Sensitivity (MDR I), and Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) by Gen Sol Diagnostics. This company reports the results with a letter score as follows:
A – Animal does not have a gene for the targeted test. Normal
B – Animal carries one gene for the targeted condition. If the condition is recessive, the animal will be a non-affected carrier.
C – Animal carries two genes for the targeted condition and will be at risk.
We do not breed animals that are seen to be affected. Only a genetic test tells if the animal is a carrier.
All our puppies receive a health examination by a veterinarian prior to being offered for sale. Any health question will be shared with a buyer or the puppy will not be offered.
We request that the new owner take the puppy to a veterinarian within two weeks. If that veterinarian finds a serious health issue which will limit the life or use of the puppy, the owner may return the puppy and receive a refund or replacement puppy. A veterinary statement must accompany the puppy.
If any other health issue arises at a later time which, for some reason, may have been overlooked earlier, Jauhara farm will consult with a veterinarian to decide if the condition was present at sale and a mutually agreeable solution will be sought. We want healthy puppies and happy owners.
